TASC Preparation and
Testing Options

BPS Adult Education Division offers both testing sites and preparation classes for the TASC exam.

Free TASC™, Math, Reading & Writing

These courses are designed to assist adults 17 years and older with math, reading, and writing skills in preparation for taking and passing the TASC™ exam.

 

Instruction focuses on improving basic skills, reading of Science & Social Studies materials, as well as analytical and general study concepts.

Monday-Friday classes available morning, afternoon & evening (except Friday).  Saturday morning classes available.


TASC Exam

The New York State TASC™ exam is offered at least once a month at the Workforce Literacy Center (WLC), located at 160 Edward Street at Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.

 

The test includes Language Arts, Reading & Writing, Math, Science & Social Studies.  In total, the exam is 10 hours in length.

What is TASC?
TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) is a state-of-the-art, affordable national high school equivalency test that assesses five subject areas including Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. It measures examinees’ levels of achievement relative to that of graduating high school seniors, and career and college readiness, as outlined by the Common Core State Standards.

As of January 2014, BPS Adult Education Division has transitioned the the new TASC exam to replace the GED® as the official no - cost exam for high school equivalency. Students who pass the TASC will be awarded an official New York State high equivalency diploma.
TASC Exam Registration

The test is given on Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm (2 parts- Language Arts, Reading & Writing), and the following Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm (3 parts - Math, Science & Social Studies.) On Saturday, all parts will be completed in one day. 

 

All candidates must have 2 forms of I.D. (photo ID & Social Security card.)

 

Candidates under the age of 19 must qualify for one of the following Attachments, which are available at the Adult Learning Center office, before they can sit for the TASC™ exam:

 

Attachment B - Verifying that one complete year has passed since the candidate left school - OR -the candidate was a member of a class that has already graduated.

 

-or-

 

Attachment D - Verifying the candidate's acceptance into armed forces, job corps or college.
