A 1st Class Stationary Engineer is the next step (Intermediate level) in the stationary engineering program. Many operators achieve their 1st Class Stationary Engineer License and remain at this level for their entire career as it is a non-management operator role. This licensing level allows the individual to operate a 299-horsepower boiler plant along with 299 tons of refrigeration. A 1st class license allows the operator to work alone but must still be supervised by a Chief Engineer. The 1st Class Stationary Engineer Course is comprised of 80 hours of instruction, building on the previous 80 hours of instruction from the 2nd Class Engineer Course.
