A Chief Stationary Engineer is the highest-level operator within the stationary engineering program. Traditionally, there are fewer operators who achieve their Chief Stationary Engineer License as this level is treated as a management operator role with oversight of a large facility and crews of engineers of all levels. This licensing level allows the individual to operate an unlimited amount boiler horsepower within a designated plant along with an unlimited number of tons of refrigeration. The Chief Stationary Engineer Course is comprised of 80 hours of instruction, building on the 80 hours of instruction from the 1st Class Engineer Course.
