Interested in College but not sure you are ready? CCI

 

The Career Collegiate Institute (CCI) could be the answer for you. 

CCI is an intense learning program for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals ages 17-21. This program provides students with preparation classes for taking and passing the TASC™ exam and for entrance into Erie Community College. (The  TASC™ replaces the GED® as the official New York State exam for obtaining a High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE).)

 

 Students will also have exposure to career and technical education. Ultimately, students will leave the program with a High School Equivalency Diploma and a pathway to success!

All students 17 years of age must provide:

  • Two proofs of address in the parent/legal guardian’s name:

o   NYS driver’s license or non-driver’s license (must be current)

o   Gas, electric, or cable bill within the last 30 days

o   Pay stub within the last 30 days

o   Notice of Decision Statement from the Erie County Department of Social Services (current year)

  • Certified birth certificate which includes parent(s) name or I-94 card (with Immigration Family Page)

  • Up-to-date immunization record

  • Latest report card or official transcript (and special education documents, if applicable)

  • Drop letter from last school attended

  • Parent/legal guardian photo identification

  • Legal guardianship or custody papers (if the child does not reside with the biological parent)

  • Proof of physical examination within the last year

 

All students 18-20 years of age must provide:

All applicants must successfully complete the registration process before being scheduled for an Orientation.

Pre-College Program

Do you see college in your future? PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS 

 

The Pathways to Success program provides developmental and college entry services at no cost to those students who wish to enter college but need preparatory coursework to meet entry requirements. Jointly sponsored by Erie Community College and the Buffalo Public Schools, "Pathways to Success" combines the resources of both institutions to create value for our learning community. 

 

Who is the program for? 

  • People who would like to attend ECC but aren't ready academically.

  • People who need to improve their skills.

  • People who would like to obtain an associate degree in their chosen field of study.

 

What is the program? 

  • Developmental Math and English courses to prepare students for college level courses.

  • TASC™ preparation courses for those that need to graduate from High School.

  • English as a second language courses for those who need to improve their command of the English language before entering college.

  • An established link between BPS vocational continuing education courses and the corresponding ECC degree program.

  • College entry services provided by ECC.

  • Fast track enrollment at ECC to students who successfully complete the pathways program.

 

How much will the program cost? 

  • Most services are free, allowing grants and student loans to be used for college courses.

 

Where and when are courses offered? 

  • At over 18 sites in Buffalo and at Erie Community College.

  • Day and evening courses offered year round.

 

What are the classes like? 

  • Instruction is designed to prepare you for entrance to the college.

  • Teachers are all NY State Department of Education certified.

Free TASC™, Math, Reading & Writing

These courses are designed to service students 17 to 21 years with math, reading, and writing skills in preparation for taking and passing the TASC™ exam. Instruction focuses on improving basic skills, reading of science & social studies materials, as well as analytical and general study concepts.

 

TASC™ Reading and Math Basics for Youth TASC™ Test Preparation Monday-Friday.   Morning and afternoon classes available.

What You Need to Know About the TASC™ Exam:

  • The New York State TASC™ exam is offered at least once a month at the Workforce Literacy Center (WLC), located at 160 Edward Street at Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.

  • The test includes Language Arts, Reading & Writing, Math, Science & Social Studies. 

  • In total, the exam is 10 hours in length.

  • All candidates must have 2 forms of I.D. (photo ID & Social Security card.)

  • Candidates must meet with a Career Advisor to complete application to sit for the TASC® exam.
